THE
Philippines’s real-estate industry came together on September 30 to
acknowledge the best of the best at the 2013 Philippines Property Awards
gala dinner and awards presentation ceremony held at the Fairmont
Makati in Manila.
A speech by guest of
honor Sen. Franklin Drilon followed opening remarks by Terry Blackburn,
CEO of organizers Ensign Media, and chairman of the judges, Cyndy Tan
Jarabata, which set the tone for an exciting evening of celebration
.
Although a first for
the Philippines, the awards are part of the South East Asia Property
Awards, which have been held in Singapore for the last three years and
built on the organizer’s experience of the eight-year-old Thailand
Property Awards.
“We decided that the
next destination for the Property Awards was the Philippines simply
because it is the most exciting emerging market real-estate destination
in Southeast Asia right now,” Blackburn said. “There are premium quality
developments going up all over Metro Manila and in resort destinations
such as Cebu and Boracay that are a match for anything in the rest of
Asia.”
In total, 17 awards
were on offer in four categories: Developer, Development, Design and
Real-Estate Services. The development categories included awards for
condos in Metro Manila and Cebu, as well as housing and resort
developments nationwide. The Design categories reflect the best in
residential, commercial, hotel and interior design, while Real-Estate
Services rewards consultancies and agencies.
The
biggest award of the evening, Best Developer, went to Shang Properties
Realty Corp., which beat out competition from (DMCI) Project Developers
Inc. and Robinsons Land Corp. for the coveted award.
Best Boutique
Developer was won by ArthaLand Corp., which also capped a good evening
by claiming the Best Residential Architectural Design award and the Best
Luxury Condo (Manila) award for its Arya Residences development, making
it the biggest winner of the night.
For the Best
Commercial Development category, the judges decided to give out two
awards to reflect the diversity of properties in the sector. The first
award was given to Zuellig Building for Best Commercial Development
(Office), while the second award was handed to Magnolia Town Center for
Best Commercial Development (Retail). Zuellig also won an award under the Best Commercial Architectural Design category.
Jones Lang LaSalle did
best in the Real-Estate Services categories, bringing home two out of
the three awards for Best Property Management Company and for Best
Commercial Agent. Alveo Land took the final award in the segment for
Best Residential Agent.
“The quality of
nominations and entries this year was exceptional and has set the bar
high for next year’s Philippines Property Awards,” said Blackburn.
The winners in all
categories will now go on to compete for regional recognition in the
South East Property Awards that will be held in Singapore on October 31.
A panel of judges with
oversight by Binder Dijker Otte & Co. (BDO) International Ltd.
evaluated all nominations and entries this year. The short-listed
projects were subjected to site inspections before the judging panel
submitted its list of winners and highly commended developments and
businesses to BDO International Ltd.
“The independent panel
of judges, as well as the entire judging process, is paramount for us
and has been the cornerstone of success for these awards. BDO
International Ltd. oversaw the entire process from start to finish,
ensuring that the judging process was done fairly and without bias or
favor,” added Blackburn.
Lastly, the title of
Real Estate Personality of the Year, which was chosen by the editorial
team of Property Report Magazine, was awarded to Antonino Aquino,
president and CEO of Ayala Land Inc.
“We chose Mr. Aquino
as the recipient of this award based on his proven track record of
leadership and a clear commitment to providing real-estate services that
extend beyond just buildings to improve the quality of life,” said
Jules Kay, managing editor of Property Report Magazine. “Under his
stewardship, Ayala Land Inc. continues to set new benchmarks for
excellence in the real-estate industry, and such achievements deserve
recognition.”
MANILA, Philippines—After an extended and thorough judging process that included a series of site visits for the development entries, the esteemed panel of seven expert judges for the Philippines Property Awards has announced its full shortlist of winners.
Every shortlisted company will receive either a winner’s trophy or a “Highly Commended” certificate and the awards will be presented by leading industry figures in the ballroom of Raffles & Fairmont
Makati on the evening of September 30.
Alba Romeo & Co, representing BDO Advisory as the independent monitor for the judging process, confirmed that the scores for the awards had been tabulated appropriately, based on score sheets provided by the judges.
In the non-development categories, notable names on the shortlist of winners include Shang Properties Realty Corporation, Robinsons Land Corporation and DMCI Project Developers Inc., all named in the “Best Developer” category while for “Best Boutique Developer,” the companies listed are Alphaland Corporation, Arthaland Corporation and Mañosa Properties, Inc.
Well-known residential projects are also included among the winners. In Metro Manila, One Shang
Place, Arya Residences and Raffles Suites are all named in the “Best Luxury Condo Development” category.
Meanwhile in Cebu City, Avida Towers Riala, 1016 Residences and Park Point Residences
also made the winners’ shortlist.
Commercial developments slated for awards later this month include Zuellig Building, which is named “Best Commercial Development (Office)”.
Magnolia Town Center, Century City Mall and Park Mall Cebu are all on the shortlist for “Best Commercial Development (Retail)”.
Then there is the “Best Condo Development (Resort)” category, for which Pico de Loro Cove at Hamilo Coast, Aqua Boracay and Boracay Newcoast have all been shortlisted.
“I am delighted to see such a diverse and exciting shortlist in the first year of the Philippines Property Awards,” said Terry Blackburn, CEO, Ensign Media, the organizers of the awards and publishers of Property Report Magazine.
“We always hoped that we would get the leading companies in local real estate fully engaged with
the awards, but this list surpasses our expectations. We are clearly laying firm foundations for the future of the PPAs and can see them growing rapidly from this very strong start. I wish the best of luck to all the shortlisted companies and thanks to the judges for selecting such a strong and balanced field.”
In addition to the above awards, other accolades will include prizes for “Best Architecture,” “Best Interior Design,” as well as awards for the “Best Agent” and “Best Management Company.” The editorial team at Property Report Magazine will also announce the winner of the Philippines Real Estate Personality of the Year Award 2013.
